Wanted to start a discussion on players we need to bring back for next year. We will have portal losses, but if the program is serious about continuity, believe you need to retain the following ppl:
Offense
– Retzlaff if he gets JUCO extension
– Shadre Hurst, won’t find comparable OL in portal given our financial limitations.
– Shazz Preston, believe he is only scratching surface of his potential, provided he stays healthy.
– Zycarl Lewis, gives us real speed at slot position, can move him around, should be able to resign due to numbers as 2nd string player.
– McClure, most pop out of anyone in RB room.
– miller and Reid from TE room.
– Ty Thompson, he’s got the ability to help us when healthy, either as situational TE or in wildcat package.
Would love to keep Reece Baker but he may get snatched by another school due to how young he is. I like Hayes and Brown-Stephens, but we need to bring competition into WR room. Great if you can resign, but not end of world if they are lost to portal. Don’t think we can keep Javin Gordon
Defense
– Santana Hopper, incredible DT for our level.
– Harvey Dyson, think he can be a 1st team all conference player next year
– Kevin Adams, has been developing in this system and ready for starting role.
– McAlpine, hoping he makes big leap next year
– Chris Rodgers, have lacked athleticism at LB spot for several years, he gives us good speed and experience at position.
– TJ Smith, great special teams player
– depth pieces from this season like garner, Guidry, and Josh Lewis
I think we lose Tchienchou to P4. White and shine probably bounce, uncertain with Jaheim Johnson. Our secondary killed us all year, not mad if we replace dbs with portal players.
Special Teams
– Durkin. No idea how expensive it will be to keep on roster, but he’s been phenomenal this year.
